Where Scripture, Scholarship, and Chin Christian Meet.

READING THE WORD. EXPLAINING THE MEANING. SERVING THE PEOPLE

Chin Society for Biblical Literature (CSBL) is a scholarly and ministry-oriented society dedicated to the study, interpretation, teaching, and publication of biblical literature for the Chin community and beyond.

Our Identity

CSBL is a scholarly society devoted to the study of the Bible, biblical languages, hermeneutics, theology, history, culture, translation, and the reception of Scripture among Chin communities and beyond.

CSBL is a community of pastors, teachers, students, writers, researchers, and Christian leaders who share a common commitment to biblical study and theological formation. We seek to serve Chin churches, theological institutions, diaspora communities, and the wider Christian world by promoting biblical literacy, responsible interpretation, and thoughtful Christian witness.

Although rooted in the Chin context, CSBL welcomes all who value Scripture, scholarship, and faithful ministry.

CSBL is not merely an academic organization. It is a covenantal community of scholars and practitioners who believe that serious engagement with the biblical text is both an intellectual vocation and an act of service to the church. The Society is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scholarly integrity while remaining deeply attentive to the pastoral, linguistic, and cultural realities of Chin communities around the world.

The Society is intentionally:

  • Chin-rooted. Grounded in the history, faith, languages, and experiences of the Chin people.
  • Diaspora-aware. Attentive to the realities of Chin communities living in Myanmar, India, Malaysia, Australia, Europe, North America, and other parts of the world.
  • Academically serious. Committed to disciplined research, careful argument, responsible citation, and intellectual integrity.
  • Church-serving. Seeking to strengthen preaching, teaching, theological education, Bible translation, discipleship, and ministry.
  • Globally engaged. Welcoming conversation and collaboration with scholars and institutions beyond the Chin community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote the study, teaching, interpretation, and publication of biblical literature in ways that strengthen the church, serve the academy, and bless the wider community.

We seek to create a space where biblical scholarship and Christian ministry meet—where careful study leads to clearer teaching, deeper faith, and faithful service.

Our Vision

Our vision is to see a growing community of Chin biblical scholars, teachers, pastors, writers, and students who are equipped to read Scripture faithfully, interpret it responsibly, and communicate its message meaningfully across cultures and generations.

CSBL hopes to become a trusted center for biblical learning, publication, dialogue, and theological reflection for the Chin people and for others who share this calling.

Our Values

  • Academic Rigor — We hold ourselves to the highest scholarly standards in research, writing, and dialogue.
  • Chin Identity — We are rooted in the cultural and linguistic heritage of the Chin people and take that heritage seriously as a hermeneutical and institutional resource.
