Membership Categories
Membership in the Chin Society for Biblical Literature is open to individuals who share a commitment to the academic study of the Christian Scriptures and to the advancement of Chin biblical scholarship. The Society offers distinct membership categories corresponding to different levels of scholarly formation and institutional engagement.
Founding Member
Founding Members are individuals who join the Society during its inaugural period of establishment. This category carries special historical and institutional significance: Founding Members are the co-architects of CSBL and bear shared responsibility for the Society’s early direction, governance, and scholarly identity. Founding Members receive full voting rights, eligibility for executive and advisory roles, and permanent recognition in the Society’s records.
Eligibility: Open to scholars, pastors, educators, and students who formally affiliate with CSBL during the founding period.
Regular Member
Regular Members are active participants in the scholarly life of the Society. They are eligible to present at colloquia, submit to the Journal of Chin Biblical Studies, participate in working groups, and vote in Society elections.
Eligibility: Open to individuals engaged in biblical, theological, or related academic study or professional ministry.
Associate Member
Associate Membership is designed for those who support the mission of CSBL and wish to remain connected to its scholarly community, but who are not currently engaged in active academic research or publication.
Eligibility: Open to interested individuals, including church members, ministry workers, and friends of the Society.
Student Member
Student Membership is available to those currently enrolled in accredited degree programmes at the undergraduate or graduate level in biblical studies, theology, or related disciplines. Student Members benefit from reduced rates, mentorship opportunities, and full access to Society resources.
Eligibility: Current enrollment in an accredited academic programme.
Institutional Member
Institutional Membership is available to seminaries, colleges, churches, and other organizations that wish to formally affiliate with CSBL and support its mission. Institutional Members receive representation in Society governance and access to collective resources.
Eligibility: Academic institutions, theological seminaries, and ecclesiastical bodies.
An Invitation to Become a Founding Member
The Chin Society for Biblical Literature is at its beginning. It does not yet have members. It has one founder — and a conviction that it must not remain that way.
This Society was established in the belief that Chin scholars, pastors, and students have a distinctive and necessary contribution to make to the global study of Scripture. That contribution requires an institution — a scholarly home — where Chin voices are not guests, but principals; where the intellectual heritage of the Chin people is not a footnote, but a foundation.
We write to you because we believe you may be one of those voices.
What Founding Membership means:
Founding Members are more than early affiliates. They are co-founders in the truest sense — individuals whose decision to join at this inaugural stage shapes the Society’s character, governance, and future. To become a Founding Member is to say: this matters, and I am willing to stand with it from the beginning.
Founding Members will be permanently recognized in the Society’s records. They will hold full voting rights and be eligible for leadership roles on the Executive Committee and Advisory Council. Most importantly, they will be part of a community that takes seriously the task of reading, translating, and explaining the Word of God with precision, faithfulness, and care.
We invite you to join us.
If you are a biblical scholar, theologian, pastor, educator, or student — and if you share the conviction that Chin communities deserve a scholarly society of their own — we ask you to consider becoming a Founding Member of the Chin Society for Biblical Literature.
Applications for Founding Membership are now open. Please contact us or complete the membership form to begin the process.
